Today's good climate and environment news

Happy Friday!

Here are today’s stories of progress in the fight against the climate crisis and nature loss.

In Copenhagen, traffic lights at key roads are coordinated so that a cyclist at 20km/h can sail through green lights without stopping – a ‘green wave’. This initiative is now being expanded to 15 more routes. It’s hoped this, along with other new measures like building the country’s longest cycling bridge, will encourage even more people in the bike-friendly city to cycle.

As US federal policies champion fossil fuels, the group Moms Clean Air Force is focusing on fighting for climate action at the state and local level. It’s pushing for changes including switching to electric school buses, plugging methane-belching old oil wells, and curtailing air pollution. By focusing on children’s health, it’s spurring parents to action from the schoolyard to the senate.

In Ethiopia, the Agaw community is combining solar power with traditional land management techniques like terracing land and rotational grazing, showing how clean energy can help make Indigenous communities more resilient. Solar-powered pumps are replenishing dry areas with groundwater, combating drought while improving energy access.
