🌱💡 How solar panels are saving lives
Today's good climate and environment news
Here’s today’s stories of progress in the fight against climate change.
💧 Solar panels are stopping water-borne disease
Coastal communities in Bangladesh are suffering from a lack of clean water, with rising sea levels contaminating fresh water and putting millions of lives at risk. Now, solar-powered desalination plants are springing up that can produce 1,000 litres of drinkable water every hour. Previously, intermittent electricity meant that shortages persisted even though these plants were in operation, but with the panels, they can generate clean water around the clock.
📣 Politicans underestimate how much we care about the climate
Oxford researchers have found that people in policy believe that just 37% of the public supports climate action – when in fact, the real figure is 69%. The researchers hope this revelation could give policymakers the confidence to pursue stronger climate action, without fear of their policies being unpopular.
🐺 The wolves freaked out by Marriage Story
Farmers in the US are finding ways to keep endangered grey wolves away from their livestock without having to kill them – one of which involves blasting audio from the 2019 film Marriage Story. The sound from the scene, featuring a screaming argument between a divorcing couple, is terrifying enough that it lets wolves know “humans are bad,” says a USDA district supervisor.
